The Building

Base

The Base is "big roof" space that acts as a "collector". It is a single gesture easily understood as an identifiable place. Its major orientation is toward Church Street. It contains the train station, shopping center, building lobbies, spaces for cultural activities and other public functions on four public levels: -2: Commuter train platforms -1: Subway platforms 0: Station, shopping, cultural spaces, building lobbies +1: Shopping, bridge to WFC.

Memorial

A precinct that occupies the roof of the complex base and extends to a larger outer zone of space designated as a memorial zone.

Towers

There are three tall and one short tower; they terminate at different heights to create a dynamic profile on the skyline. The lowest tower is a smaller-scaled piece related to the height of the steeples of St. PaulŐs Chapel and Trinity Church, which becomes apparent at close proximity. The towers are separated by "cracks" the width of city streets that allow for natural light and views, and that reinforce the relationship to urban fabric. SW Tower: offices, satellite station NW Tower: offices, residential, hotel, observation deck NE Tower: offices, live / work spaces SE Tower: visitors center, signage Atrium / Bridges: elevator sky-lobbies connect the buildings functionally, create public spaces for enjoyment of city views, and increase life-safety as additional means of egress. They are to be used for public functions such as shopping, hotel and apartment lobbies, meeting facilities, restaurants, etc.
